Common access issues for eReserves in Canvas
Answer
Johns Hopkins recommends using an updated version of Firefox or Chrome for Canvas. See Canvas FAQ for Students for more information.
Troubleshooting
The most common problem is actually temporary: When you click on a specific title in the readings list and a "password reset screen" appears (see image below). Solution: Refresh your browser and the reading should appear. Do not attempt to change your password; there are no special passwords for eReserves.
The "Cookies" Problem: This is much rarer. Sometimes you may click on the eReserves link in Canvas, or on a specific title in a readings list, and get an error message.
Solutions
- First, try clearing your browser cache AND cookies.
- If that does not work, try 1) switching to a new browser OR 2) accessing your eReserves via this direct link that bypasses Canvas.
- If accessing eReserves via Canvas remains your preference, some browsers - usually under a Privacy / Security setting - allow you to make exceptions to enable cookies and site data only for specific websites. For Canvas, you can use https://jhu.instructure.com as that site address.
- Another option is to enable "third party cookies." Firefox and Chrome instructions can be found via Johns Hopkins and/or Northern Illinois University. Additional information on tablets or phones can be found here. In the spirit of internet privacy, we recommend you try to avoid enabling third party cookies.
